Considering the censorship of last year's Oscar-winning film 'No Other Land', the outlook seems discouraging. The girl Hind Rajab was killed by a squad that included an Argentine citizen. A little over two months ago, some information about the investigation of such a crime became known. Whenever an important film about Palestine premieres worldwide, the same question arises: will it be shown in Argentine cinemas? The problem that is beginning to emerge is the unanswered questions: where does combating false information with unchecked or distorted information lead us? Is it really useful to spread a Nazi propaganda pamphlet written 50 years ago just because some conjectures slightly fit what is happening today? Is the way out to fight fascism alongside other fascists? What happens when the sector to be denounced clings to a lie against itself, plays the victim, and uses it to hide the truth? Norman Finkelstein wrote 'The Holocaust Industry' 25 years ago. While the Zionists systematically spread false news to propagate the genocide in Gaza, they are now cornered by the wave of information (partially true, partially unchecked, plus certain conspiracy theories that contribute little to the truth) and have to deny it to later play the victim after countless lies. The parallels and connections between both fires are many. This adds to the role of Israeli visitors breaking the rules and the ties with Milei's government (who constantly expresses his support for them), which fuels the other fire: anger. The fires in Patagonia unleashed an unprecedented wave of indignation. The Israeli, named Rotem Singer, used toilet paper and, trying not to take it with him, attempted to burn it, causing a tremendous fire. While in Palestinian settlers destroy and burn olive trees and in the occupied territories they plant foreign vegetation, such as pines, in Argentina something similar happens: pines are the main spreaders of fire in both Argentine Patagonia and territory occupied by Israel. But there are also parallels in political reactions and criminalization strategies. It was an internal question, soon discarded. In December of that same year, in Torres del Paine, Chilean Patagonia, an Israeli caused a fire of thousands of hectares after violating an environmental norm: in a protected area, what was asked was not to leave waste and to take everything to throw away in the city. In both cases, government communication points to criminalizing the native population: while in Argentina the Mapuche people are accused, the Israeli authorities accuse the Palestinian resistance. An element that increases indignation is how, in the face of the disregard for the fires in Argentina, the government does express solidarity with Israel. The government, which systematically aired discriminatory and unfounded accusations against the Mapuche people, is now in trouble to defend its Israeli friends from similar accusations. There appears the story of the lying shepherd, the one who ends up condemned by his own lies. The anger at the occupation and genocide against the Palestinian people, however, is less. Her sister was in Argentina when the murder took place and even stated in an interview that her brother was 'fighting'. And what if, instead of looking for an easy click by spreading conspiracy theories, Argentine journalists unite to investigate these things? Would it not be better to dismantle the deep networks that link Argentina to these genocidal practices and that are already putting us to shame before the world? Argentina was, along with Israel and the United States, one of only 3 UN member states that voted against combating torture. But there also appears the risk of using a lie as a militancy strategy. The crude and unfounded accusations against the Mapuche people or firefighters have a long history. She was just one of the 20,000 girls and boys who died victims of the genocide in Gaza in the last two years. The story, despite the siege of hegemonic media, sank so deep into sensitivity that it spread and achieved numerous tributes in much of the world. There he analyzes the use of the suffering of Jews as an element to silence those who criticize the current atrocities committed by Zionism in occupied Palestine. 'I don't want them to ever come back again,' her indignation had as a recent episode an incident at the Mexican restaurant where she worked: some Israelis put a hair in the food and accused her to not pay for the meal. The news also circulated in Argentine Patagonia as an account, sometimes with unclear information, but the specific episode happened between December 2011 and January 2012. Many stories of this kind circulate throughout Patagonia and other territories of our country. The government's inaction accompanied by the explicit intentions to do business, the RIGI, and other statements also fuel it. It was also, along with Israel, one of the few to vote against recognizing access to drinking water as a human right, while hand in hand with the previous government and deepened by the current one, the Israeli company Mekorot is increasingly involved in the management of water in our country. A question we have to ask ourselves again and again: who benefits from the viralization of fake news or conspiracy theories? The focus on discrimination. Something caused a stir, in these times of fake news madness and fascism. While officialist militants post Islamophobic comments freely and even get upset over the simple inauguration of a mosque, the DAIA invents discrimination complaints against anyone who criticizes the state of Israel or directly pronounces itself in support of an oppressed people, as happened a few months ago when a complaint was filed against a person who attended a hockey match with a shirt that said 'Save Gaza'. While arbitrary detentions are carried out towards members of the Mapuche people and even firefighters with unfounded accusations, there are those who only raise the cry to the heavens against the accusations against a privileged sector. On conspiracy theories and real episodes in Patagonia. It is January 2011. While these questions arise, a wave of Islamophobia is sweeping our country and the hegemonic media seem to live in peace with this increasingly violent discrimination. While the right to discrimination seems to be the only one the current government does not want to remove, it only seems to cause a stir when discrimination is against a privileged sector: as happened in the persecutions against the All Boys hooligans last year, while every weekend soccer hooligans disseminate discriminatory chants against Bolivians, Paraguayans, sexual dissidents and more. 'They are soldiers, they come to inspect to settle here because at any moment the Arabs will give them a kick in the ass,' is a recurring comment in hostels and mountain refuges in Bariloche and other localities for years. A woman rents rooms in her house in Bariloche and at the same time works as a waitress to sustain her life in Patagonia where she had decided to move some time ago. The behavior of Israeli tourists when moving in groups and the arrogant and hostile treatment they usually have even with local populations does not help. Reading does not always eliminate fascism, let alone reading anything, but in these cases it is pertinent to recommend some urgent readings. After the DAIA and a group of affiliated media operators falsely accuse artists and different personalities of 'anti-Semitism' today, in the face of the indignation and accusations against a fire, their voice was legitimately devalued. According to this woman, the episode was recurrent. Until then, it would seem to be an advance in making visible what the hegemonic press conceals. Can you go out to deny unchecked information about who caused a fire but at the same time deny a genocide that is committed in its name? Who benefits from the dissemination of conspiracy theories? He was sanctioned with a fine of 10,000 dollars but today it is being discussed how severe that sanction had been, which was even reviewed recently. The truth is that Israel is a militarized population: more than 90% of its civilian population is or has been in the army and most are reservists. Among the names of those who were part of that squad was a soldier with Argentine citizenship: Itai Cukierkopf. This was also communicated by the Zionist propaganda portal 'Vis a vis', on May 1st of last year. The murder of Hind Rajab and the Argentine connection. One of the many incalculable crimes committed by Zionism was that of the girl Hind Rajab. By the end of April and beginning of May, the hot weather moved to the northern hemisphere and a fire spread between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. First, the complaint went to Federal Court Number 3 in charge of Daniel Rafecas (yes, the same one who prosecuted Vanina Biasi) but it was not accepted as the court was on vacation. Was it 'anti-Semitic' to wear a shirt that said 'Save Gaza'? Was it 'anti-Semitic' to defend peoples that speak a Semitic language like Palestinian and Lebanese? Could one accuse indigenous peoples without any proof and even carry out detentions and at the same time cover up Israeli visitors? For that time, the case was in Court Number 4 in charge of Ariel Lijo (the same one who ordered the detention of Daniel Vera in the middle of last year, for comments on Facebook). These cases are real, probably not the only ones but if the ones that also have complaints made that were dismissed by the Argentine Judiciary. The fires 'here and there'. Last year began, like this one, with fires in Patagonia. The complaint, originally filed against Hirshoren, was reinforced upon learning of the arrival of the other two soldiers, the last presentation being on January 2, 2025. No sanctions were known against that subject, who later on social media offered an apology. The hegemonic media that usually raise the cry to the heavens for episodes of Judeophobia using the concept 'anti-Semitic' but little and nothing is said about facts of Islamophobia and other episodes of discrimination did not spread this news, nor something more serious: the presence of war criminals in our country. Israeli war criminals in Argentina: a real story. Last summer, at least 3 Israeli soldiers with international complaints for war crimes visited Argentina. Saar Hirshoren, Lieutenant Amit Nechmya, platoon commander of the Givati Brigade, one of the infantry brigades of the Israel Defense Forces (battalion 435) and Yuval Vagdani, who passed through our country after fleeing a detention order in Brazil and was a member of the 749th Combat Engineering Battalion of Israel, entered the country between the last week of December 2024 and the first of January 2025. The soldiers Yuval Vagdani and Saar Hirshoren denounced by the Hind Rajab Foundation, The relevant complaint was made in the country by the Hind Rajab Foundation's consulting lawyer in Argentina. The prejudice against this account can have many directions, in the case of the person writing these words and who was a witness to that conversation, the prejudice pointed to the story of 'Nazis in Bariloche' am I facing someone linked to them? But this murder showed a cruelty incompatible with human condition: more than 350 bullets were fired at a car where there was a helpless girl. What we can understand as 'flora colonization'. Some real, others distorted, others unprovable. One day she arrives at her house indignant and shares her anger with the visitors: 'I'm fed up with the Israelis, they always mistreat us Who do they think they are?'. A film called 'The Voice of Hind Rajab' has even just been released, whose production had the support of Brad Pitt, and Joaquin Phoenix among others. But that does not mean that they are actually in theaters. Last year, an Israeli DJ made a video playing electronic music in a protected area in Tierra del Fuego, which was an outrageous environmental offense. The 'story of the lying shepherd' tells the story of a person who, on successive occasions, lies warning about a non-existent fire to call attention but, from repeating the lie so much, when the fire is real no one is going to help him. Both fires have a promoter element: the destruction of native vegetation and the planting of pines.
Fires, Lies, and Anger: Parallels Between Argentina and Palestine
The article explores disturbing parallels between the fires in Argentine Patagonia and the conflict in Palestine, while also addressing censorship, discrimination, and the presence of Israeli war criminals in Argentina. The author analyzes how the government and media react to these events and calls for deeper investigation instead of spreading conspiracy theories.
